So...?

Gamesmanship? What of Herr Klinsmann during his "glory" days with Inter Milan and erstwhile West Germany? I am sure he was as good a diver as anyone now. And the legacy continues with that hyper-annoying Miroslav Klose and his robotic body language.

Unwatchable? Then, go watch some candy-floss Karan Johar flick instead. Or better still, watch the episode in "Rendezvous" where he is being interviewed by Simi Garewal. It is so delicate that viewer discretion is advised against "minimal user experience". This is the FIFA World Cup, a contact sport's biggest championship. Not some Tom & Jerry cartoon show.

Rough and dirty tackling? What of the Italians in '82? West Germans in '90? Almost a majority of the sides in USA '94? the South Koreans in '02? Don't tell me that they were angels with studs.

And last but not the least, why is any team that wins against England portrayed as cunning, cheating group of streetsmart footballers? Get out of your colonial hangover, you snobs! And accept the game for what it is now. Sometimes, the best team will not win. (I readily admit that neither England nor Portugal deserved to win the match). Take it or take a hike to Greenland.

I am in no way condoning Luiz Felipe Scolari. I hate his tactics as much as anyone else does. But, does a student complain if the college lecturer gives a couple of extra marks for a mediocre answer in a theory paper? Does a motorist hesitate to leave when the traffic cop stops him for risky driving and lets him go without a fine here? NO, and so will I. The dream is still alive and to me, that's all that matters.

"Unwatchable brand of soccer"...hmm...I guess you are watching too many Adidas football ads on TV, mate!

"I readily admit that neither England nor Portugal deserved to win the match" --- isnt that too strong a statement for some1 who loves Portugal :P

I know i'm no football critic material, but i'm sure the eng-port match was prolly the most exciting match of the world cup yet...:)

As a true football fan, I like to watch some attractive fare. But, when its not there, my first instinct is hope that no one wins. So was it with this match.

Portugal have been a much tougher team to beat now than in the past. But ppl mistake that grit and never-say-die attitude as gamesmanship and playacting. I just cudnt figure out why they cudnt get a goal against Eng who had a guy sent off. That's why I admitted that.
